What a terrific post! Where were you last summer when I was blawg bandwagoning? The best insight for me is number four:

"Sure, you lose the complete ruckus you can make in a private journal – perhaps some of the cathartic elements, the riskier thoughts, but at the same time you don’t feel as though you’re speaking to no one."

My daily journals pre-blogging were all such a "ruckus" that they become almost meaningless. Knowing that at least one or two people will probably read what I write (and that it will be archived by google potentially forever) helps keep the writing more productive, less self-indulgent and navel-gazish. I don't think I've ever thought of it like that, but that alone makes it worth doing, at least for me.

Also: Like you, I've found it's nice to be more "out" about the blog, but I'd actually rather be even more so (while still remaining at least slightly googlenonymous, which may just be a fantasy at this point). People still almost never mention it to me; I think they think it's like a dirty secret, but it's not. I'm not sure how to overcome that unless I just start talking about it all the time myself, but I don't really want to do that either, so I'm kind of stick in a half "in," half "out" posture with it....
