My new trial partner and I are considering changing our names to Captain Nolle Prosse and the No Victim Contact Avenger. Nothing much goes to trial when we combine our superpowers. Actually it's just a run of odd luck/fate in our courtroom, but we've had nothing go to trial recently.
However, I did get to go on a jury trial today in front of a judge I've never been in front of before.
We won (a surprise, I assure you, given the relative strength of the case). I think we simply got a very good jury that held the state to their burden. I mean, I've lost trials with more reasonable doubt to put in front of the jury, but I didn't think this was an unofficial jury nullification verdict. It was also the first all woman jury I've been in front of; dunno if that means anything vis a vis their ultimate verdict. They did ask a lot of questions though, and seemed to get right to the main issue in the case. I think these ladies did their job well.
I've now had jury trials in front of 5 judges. I've gone with 8 trial partners, against 11 (I think?) state attorneys. It's been a very good year (almost a year), and I've been truly privileged to work with the people I have, despite the chronic exhaustion.

In non work news, I went on a Critical Mass ride, sorted some library books for charity, read two novels, fixed a friend's bicycle, made waffles (waffles!), and made headway on various personal projects, although the poetry, alas, is still languishing.
The kitten is doing well. I have a foster-mom lined up for him, since El Gato Pefecto is still angry and confused and jealous, alas. It's not too surprising though, given that she's 8 years old and typically hunts and kills anything in her houses besides myself and whatever smelly and loud primates I happen to have over.
It's too bad since the kitten, (as my Scottish great grandmother would say) "is himself adorable." I even have a kitten taming suit I wear (basically a thin leather jacket and jeans) so he can claw me without causing my skin to break out more than it has been lately.
And, most exciting, I may have some visitors coming into town. Riposte is a definite maybe, and I'm looking forward to having the time to play tour guide. It would also simply be good to see her. It's been a few years.
