To PD or not to PD?

Heard an interesting argument for IDing yourself as a PD to a jury.  Assume that juries think criminal defense attorneys are liars, but PDs are simply incompetent (perhaps not even lawyers).  You can prove yourself competent to a jury by the end of trial, but you may not be able to convince them that you're not a liar.  Thoughts?

I'm all about showing how much PDs rock, so I always cringe at the suggestion that we should try to prevent the gov't from calling us PDs. Here's a new potential reason to be loud and proud about being a PD...

I never mind being identified as a public defender. The 3 PDs in my office are probably in the top 10 criminal lawyers that practice in our courts.
