The Scoplaw/Flashes Principle

Given two equal areas of interest, an individual facing increasing structural deadlines in one area of interest will find the temptation to engage the second area of interest* proportional to the amount of constraint generated by the first. 

*note: the engagement with the second area need not be as potentially productive as the abandoned engagement with the first.
