The last line of that comment was amazing. Paranoia and dereliction seem to run rampant through the law enforcement profession, just as they do in every other profession. Try to call up and get some medical records. As if that weren't a nightmare. We live in a society that is content to screw up so long as their proverbial ass may be covered. God bless America!

this *exact* same experience happened to my housemate. except that she's not even a student *defense* attorney, she's with the domestic violence clinic, representing a victim in a civil suit. same deal: "you can't talk to the police officer, that's AGAINST THE LAW"

Yeah, it's amazing. I mean, seriously, there are many cases where the cop's life will be made *much* easier if she just tells the defense what she's going to say on the stand. And considering that the only way your life is going to get more difficult is if you're intending to change your story, well. . .
